Telha Clarke worked to the client’s brief to redefine the architecture of an existing planning permit, amalgamating 3 sites in leafy Malvern East location. In close proximity to sought after amenities, the challenge of the brief was to articulate the bulk of the existing permit envelope with delicacy and warmth usually seen in small scale residential design.
Flanked by a four-storey commercial building on one side, and brick double storey dwellings to the other, the architecture graduates this otherwise harsh transition through rhythmic vertical features and warm textural materials. The Hurstmon Street façade of vertical columns balance out the proportions of the site which delivered maximum yield for the client. Conscious of commercial realities, the design is deliberately restrained, allowing the rammed earth feature columns to hero the design.
