The architectural language of the Beckworth was derived from a formal expression of individual residences. Importance was placed on providing a genuine sense of ownership and personalisation to the future residents of the building. Located on a busy yet primarily residential stretch of Tooronga Rd, equal measures were taken to ensure the design presents a cohesive, singular address to respond appropriately to the site context.
Duality of individual residences presented as a cohesive whole, informed an
architectural language of the layered frames. The frames not only encapsulate and
emphasise individual dwellings, but ground the building in a sense of permanence
and proportion. A recessed second storey, defined through dark standing seam cladding, assists in accentuating the appropriately residential scale of the project
within the immediate context.
