Armytage
A collection of five boutique dwellings located on Kensington Road in South Yarra. With a residentially scaled rhythm to the street interface, deep reveals and framed openings provide shading and privacy to residents.
"A meld of inspirations; demolished mansions, existing heritage properties and contemporary architecture."
Kensington Road has several listed heritage properties and a history of large Victorian mansions, some now demolished. This history, along with contemporary architecture having a significant place in South Yarra creates an opportunity for 35-37 Kensington Road's proposed architectural language to have broad references and inspirations. The proposed facade presents a rectilinear language and consistent proportions with large expanses of glazing to the East and West with greater privacy on the side elevations.
"Materiality presented honestly with a selection focused on longevity."
Sleek detailing and landscaping confidentially resonate with the surrounding residential context, while interior spaces exude warmth with a restrained articulation.
The makeup of the scheme is 15 car spaces and 6 apartments across 3 levels and one basement. Perimeter landscaping on ground floor with opportunity for significant trees, and consideration for existing trees, has been designed into the scheme. The North and South elevations carefully consider privacy, articulation and variety of materials to create an outcome of equal amenity on and off site.
